700th blog posts give-a-way

Sometimes it's hard to remember why we start doing something.  I'm pretty sure that I started the blog back in 2008 because there were a lot of creative people getting into blogging, I had just gotten a digital camera and felt like a blog would be a good platform to talk about my work and process.  More recently I have noticed that not as many people are checking out blogs, and that formerly prolific bloggers have fallen off the blog wagon, and my own blogging or need to have it has changed too.  I have often wondered if I needed this space to still be a regular thing for me, but somehow it's still a place I get excited about sharing my thoughts with.  It's become part of my practice of art-making even though there are many other more interesting and exciting blogs out there to check out.  I find having a forum to connect with other people really amazing.  I'm not working in a vacuum and it's great to have feedback from readers like you, and it's really nice to know that someone is interested in what I'm up to.
As a little thank you for taking time out of your day to check things out here- please comment and let me know what your favourite post has been (if you have one;)! I'll pick a winner on Tuesday, May 29th with your choice of a Yellow striped or Turquoise striped mug!  Thanks for stopping by and best of luck!

My Favourite Post was your wonderful explanation of the differences between wheel-throwing verses slip-casting....and how hard it can be as an artist to choose your head over your heart =)

Congratulations on 700 posts! and looking forward to the next 700 =)

*fingers crossed*

i love your work, i use my dahlhaus mug every day! {and sometimes i steal my hubby's if mine is waiting to be washed!}
i'm fairly new to reading your blog in the past few months, but i loved the WSJ post. it struck a chord with me, as someone who owns her own handmade business. keep up the great work!!

I really enjoyed the post that you had recently with the video of the process of how you make your ceramics. It was very cool to see! I like seeing the inspiration behind things, and the trial and errors (although I'm sure only an error in your mind - those ones seem beautiful to me as well!)

I've been a fan for a few years and loved your recent post regarding the WSJ article. Your passion for your art shone through in that one. Congrats.

I think I found your blog through Poppytalk. I love your shapes and the colors are refreshing in the winter when I first saw your pottery.

I love this post best because (sorry I didn't really know there was a blog until now) it's the first one I've read ;)

Looking forward to reading more and seeing you when you are here next month.

Hi Heather!
I really enjoyed your "new ways of working" post . ..hearing about your ideas, process, weighing out design and feasibility . . . gives a glimpse into your life as an artist. I mean, I quite enjoy every post - about family, work, life . . =)

Congrats on your 700 post! I really enjoyed your post earlier this year on "designer vs maker".

I love your blog because I feel connected and included! My fav post was when your sister was about to and then had her baby. Such special moments! I love my mugs, and I love that I can make a purchase from someone I feel like I know! Thank you for your generous sharing!

Designer vs. maker is the post that, recently has resonated with me. It's such an interesting and challenging place place to be...a designer who makes, a maker who designs.

For the past 3 years or so, I pop in now and again and thoroughly enjoy your musings and watching your career grow by saying yes to those opportunities that just feel right. Congrats on your show/talk in Toronto.

Cheers!

I'm a relatively new reader, but am really enjoying your thoughtful perspectives, and the peek into your journey as an artist. My favorite post so far has been "Coming Along" http://dahlhausart.blogspot.com/2012/02/coming-along.html I too struggle with connecting (and some days even fully appreciating!) the space I live in since we do not own it. It's something I frequently think about, but don't necessarily talk to people about. It was good to read someone else's thoughts on the tension of investing time/effort/energy/heart into a "temporary" home : ) Thanks for the prompt to comment!

I'd have to say your most recent video. It was great to see your different glazing techniques & just watching an artist work. I'm a high school teacher so I often share blogs with the kids!

I'm irritated with myself for not bookmarking my favorite post of yours, because now I can't find it. (And wouldn't mind reading it again!) It was something about allowing yourself time to develop your work before turning it into a business -- something along those lines? I'd like to read it again. :) Anyway, count me in!
