Mountain top wedding

Ok so I have seen a few phenomenal-looking weddings on photography blogs and websites before.  You know, amazing photographers with stunning photos of over-the-top gorgeous brides in stunning settings
Well we pretty much checked it all off the list with this one. Mountain top resort: check.  Gondola ride for the guests, checking out the resident Grizzly Bear below as we head up to the top: check. Stunning bride with amazing dress and veil arriving in a helicopter!!: check.  Ice-wine martinis and appies on the patio overlooking a 360 degree view at 8000 ft.: check.  Ok that's probably enough of a check-list, but needless to say, we had quite an amazing time at the wedding of one of Dean's former skate club kids.  Dean even got a temporary permit to perform the wedding ceremony so it was pretty special.  And we got to hang out with some friends from Calgary who also left their boys home with the grandparents.  So, yes.  Good memories for sure!

I'll be here...

photo taken in 2009 by Sherri Koop
Things will be a little busy in the studio this week: a few more shop orders to get out the door, some custom work being made, and a group of visitors attending this conference want to come by to see my studio.  In the midst of glazing all my work, the studio will need to be cleaned up- a daunting task to say the least.  Glazing never looks pretty- buckets and bisqued pots everywhere, glaze drips on the floor.   And since I went to pick up shipping supplies last week, there are stacks of boxes and packing peanuts (the earth-friendly ones;) taking up a fair bit of square footy.  Not to mention my painting supplies.
Anyways, I have a couple of posts planned for this week, but things might be a wee bit quiet.  I hope you are having a great week!

Have a Happy Weekend!

Photo in film via Sherri Koop Photography
My good friend and photographer Sherri Koop launched her new blog this week with the image above- recognize the cake plate? Beautiful! That's what it's all about for me- ceramics that celebrates life around the table!

Speaking of which- I am pulling out 3 shop-orders (2 new shops for me- tba next week:) from the kiln this morning and will be delivering new work to the Gallery of BC Ceramics and Crafthouse YVR today, so if you are heading into or out of Vancouver this week for spring break, be sure to check out my new lovely pots over at the airport!
I should also have a few extra bottle vases up for grabs on my Etsy shop this weekend- they have been a hit!  Check out some lovely mentions this week on Modish, Birch and Bird, and Somewhere Splendid (where they spelled 'dahlhaus' wrong, but put together a lovely plug nonetheless..:).  Thank you all!

Wedluxe Magazine: Western Canada

Well it's going to take a very keen eye (and possibly a magnifying glass, lol) to notice my cake and cupcake stands in the newest Wedluxe Magazine for Western Canada, however, if you do peer close enough, you will see them being used as props for the wedding favors and shoes both on the front page and in the main article called 'Imagination in Plume'. The actual cakes they were hoping to use didn't fit in with the theme of the shoot, which is a bit too bad...  The photographer, Sherri Koop, shot all the photographs in film so there is a real dreamy light that made this shoot absolutely gorgeous! Sherri has shot photos of our family in film a number of times. As a talented photographer and a dear friend I'm really thrilled for her debut magazine article photography shoot!  Congratulations Sherri!

Happy Valentines Day

Just a little pre-Valentines post with the loves of my life photographed by the talented Sherri Koop this past summer.  Dean and I met 17 years ago and he's been the guy for me ever since.  He still makes me smile and laugh nearly every day.  I know that it's a rare treat to be married to your 'soul mate' and I'm extremely grateful to be in that place.
Happy Valentines Day to those of you who read my blog. Thanks for the comments over the past month- it means a lot to know when something strikes a chord with you as it does with me.  May your  weekend be filled with the encouragement of those who love you! And hopefully a sweet Valentine will come your way too!

Brown for Thursday

You can't talk about brown with out talking about coffee. I'm a big coffee fan and snob, I might add. Our favourite local coffee roaster, JJ Bean, makes one of the best lattes in town, with latte art to boot. That was my inspiration for these low latte mugs of mine. Low so that they fit under the home espresso machine, wide so you can attempt to make that foam look pretty. Look pretty that is, until you pour the raw sugar on top and have to stir:). Dean drinks espresso- no milk and no sugar. I'm determined to make more of these little brown espresso cups in time for Christmas, but they are usually at the bottom of my list. I'm still not sure about the design too- will have to tweek out a few thoughts on these once I get at them!
And last, my new uniform for the fall, this great Ralph Lauren Plaid shirt I found at Value Village for $4 that feels too cosy to even take off at night. I know you can't really tell what it looks like on me here, but my good friend Sherri did a swell job of making it look great on me here!

Sherri Koop Photography

For the record, we've never been to Sears or Walmart to take family photos. Not only have I always thought those were really cheesy, but I've been fortunate enough to have really close friends who were photographers. My very good friend Sherri Koop is an amazing photographer and this summer she took our photos while we were vacationing in Vernon together! Her new Contax film camera came out for the shoot and we were able to get a little preview last week before the prints arrive (by the way these are totally un-edited, & not photoshopped!) Sherri's new website (I've linked to the old site above) is slated to go up this fall, in the meantime you can get up-dated with her life and her amazing photos on her blog!
