Happy Valentines Day!

The boys and I spent the evening decorating Valentine cards for the kids in their classes yesterday.  I had made some simple heart stamps, but, as boys will be boys, the hearts were vetoed.  Oh well.  Dean printed off a bunch of photos of our kitty that say: 'I think your 'purrfect'- happy valentines day'. Our kitty 'Amber' turns 3 today- imagine a whole litter of kittens being born on Valentines Day!  Purrfect indeed!
I hope your day is full of warm wishes from friends and loved ones.  I always seem to think of the passage in 1 Corinthians on Valentines day.  It's so counter-culture to think of love this way, but considering my grandparents were happily married for 65 years by putting this verse into practice, it seems to have stood the test of time. 

 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. 

Weekend Project and a Happy Valentines Day!

Hello there! I hope you had a great weekend!  We had a few birthday parties to go to this weekend so during the days we kept things at home pretty low key.  Between making all the Valentine cards (we all pitched in) for the boy's class, baking bread, and doing the laundry, I actually managed to finish a quilt I had been making for Sasha when I was pregnant with him.  Yup, that's right.  7 years later it finally got done.   It really was a combination of not having the right sewing machine and the quilt being at my folks' place all this time because I had thought I might be able to use my mom's machine.  So years later it all finally got done.  It's quite a cheerful little quilt- of course I didn't know at the time if I was having a boy or a girl so I thought I'd go with primary colour prints.  Of course it's the size of a crib.   But no matter- Sasha thought it was quite cozy and it seems to suit his cheerful personality! 


I hope you have a great day- whether it's just a regular Monday for you or whether you are taking time to do something special with your loved one (s).  We keep things pretty low-key over here at our place, but I think some chocolate cupcakes for desert will be in order!

Just a little pre-Valentines post with the loves of my life photographed by the talented Sherri Koop this past summer.  Dean and I met 17 years ago and he's been the guy for me ever since.  He still makes me smile and laugh nearly every day.  I know that it's a rare treat to be married to your 'soul mate' and I'm extremely grateful to be in that place.

Thanks for the comments over the past month- it means a lot to know when something strikes a chord with you as it does with me.  May your  weekend be filled with the encouragement of those who love you! And hopefully a sweet Valentine will come your way too!

Love is in the air...

With Valentines day in 2 days I am trying to conjure up a romantic Valentine moment to share with you all.
It would have to be back when Dean and I were first married and living in this tiny little house in the middle of a field in Langley (1 Hr from Vancouver) for $450 a month. It was a sweet deal, but as it was, we were usually just scraping by, livin' on love. I came home from school (university folks, not high school) to find red rose petals strewn all over the kitchen floor all the way to the bedroom. I looked at Dean, dumb-founded and horrified, saying: "What happened to the roses? Did the cat do this?"; to which he said: "Isn't this romantic?"; at which I replied: "Is this going to stain the carpet?"
So to all the romantics and pragmatics out there: may you be smitten and heart-warmed over the next few days by the gestures of love that are bestowed upon you! Happy Valentines Day!
