Welcome to the studio and new work!

Oh, there will be lots to share over here in the next little bit, but for now, just a taste of the great photos that Curtis Hildebrand took of my new studio and my work late December!  Curtis has taken my website photos since I started dahlhaus in 2007 and it's been great to work with him all these years.  I can really only manage/afford one photo session a year, so the photos we take really decide the work I make for the next 8 months as I use them for my online shops and wholesale line sheet as examples of glazes and designs.

Speaking of which, I have just sent off my wholesale line sheet to a number of inquiring and existing shops, but if you have a b & m shop and would be interested in carrying my work, I am now taking orders for spring! I'm looking forward to creating work for some pretty great shops this year, so drop me a line at heather@dahlhausart.com and I'll be in touch with an email and link to view my line sheet.
Here's the set up to create such lovely photos- all done in the comfort of my studio!

New for Fall available at West Elm Vancouver!

Introducing my new glaze pattern for the fall- the Herringbone in colour-ways of turquoise to green, orange to red, grey to blue, shades of blue and yellow to green! Really, the possibilities with this design feel endless and I'm looking forward to not ever feeling bored with this one, despite the extra effort and work involved.

I'm heading over today to the new West Elm store on South Granville in Vancouver to drop off these new vases for their store launch and 'WE heart handmade art' Etsy event that's happening on the 13th of September! It's one of those opportunities that came up while we were away on holidays with a super fast turn-around date.  Fortunately I had pulled these new herringbone colours out of the kiln before we left on holidays.  I'll be expanding the series to include the colour-ways as mugs, teapots and large vases over the next month, similar to the series in blue I created for the Kindred in Blue exhibit this past June!

dahlhaus web-site update!!

The dahlhaus website is up-dated!

I just want to first off thank Tyler Payne, a great guy that I went to high school and then was at college and the Art school together with who designed my original site 5 years ago! Each year we are able to up-load new images, and add a couple of new features to keep it fresh and original - so I'm really thankful for such a well-designed site to start with!

Thank you to Curtis Hildebrand- who, without his amazing photography, my work just wouldn't look the same!  Please take the time to click through photos along the bottom of each 'category'- the photos at the 'back' of the site start in 2007, working to the most current work at the front of the site.

And of course, these up-dates would be no where without Chris Nott, my web-developer.  It seems like each time we up-date the website, he is off on a new adventure and yet is still willing to make the changes needed in a good amount of time. Thank you Chris!

Now for something that's been in the works all spring: the dahlhaus video!! Right off the top I want to thank Evan Bourque of Wilhelm Films for shooting and editing this video- he is super talented, is just starting out, and is already making amazing films!

It has been 5 years (!) this summer since I embarked on this journey of being a full-time maker and artist.  To remember this milestone and to celebrate all the work that has gone into what I do, I decided that I wanted to have a video made of me at work in the studio. There have been glimpses of how I make my work here and there on my blog, but the big reveal is now up on this video!  Having a 'trade secret' has been great, the way I make my designs in glaze on each piece is a step-by-step process that I developed on my own and sets my work apart. It has been a total labour of love although my work can look really simple and un-laboured over, almost manufactured.  While not every step of me making my work is on this video in order, it gives you a glimpse of my hands making my ceramics each and every day.

I hope you will take some time to check out the new site and video! Feed-back and sharing very welcome indeed! Thanks!

I have a lot on my plate

Just to let you know that the last of this small plate series I made last year is available on Etsy here.  It's my favourite of the bunch and hopefully I'll have more time to sort through some of these designs soon again.

On my plate these days:
-upload the new images from this past November's photoshoot up on my Website
-finish up filming for the small 'how my work gets made' video (almost done!)
-finish up a line sheet for 2012 so I can respond to shop inquiries properly
-finish up tax stuff for 2011
-finish up shop orders for the Gardiner Museum Gift Shop, the Gallery of BC Ceramics, Coal Harbour Florist, and the UBC Botanical Garden Gift Shop...
-plan 2 weeks of Spring Break in the middle of March for my boys
-sort out transportation to NCECA
-plan/make work for up-coming exhibit with Krystal Speck at bookhou in June
-work on a presentation of my work and process for the Gardiner Museum Gift Shop in June
-plan a studio sale for the spring

-not to mention the obvious pick up boys from school, make dinner, do laundry, plan things around Dean's work schedule etc.

So many exciting things in the works, so little time to make them all happen.
