Vase give-a-way!
It truly is time for a give-a-way on my little blog, partly as a way to recognize that it's been a year since I started my blog, but also to thank you for visiting! While I started this blog as a way to sort through my own journey of making art, along the way I have been able to document the little and big things happening at my studio while feeling like I had some company in the process. Working in the studio in the midst of a busy season can sometimes feel lonely and isolating, but it was always great to come home and be able to know that someone out there took the time to stop by, say 'hi' and be interested in what I was up to!
So to honour this time, and to celebrate some of the little and big things happening at the dahlhaus studio these days, I wanted to give-a-way 2 bottle vases to 2 lucky winners! First off, I am really excited that the image of the 3 bottle vases with poppies (at the top) has been chosen to be published in a new book coming out called, 'Ceramics Today', along with 3 other images of work from my collection! The journey of these vases started on this blog, starting here and then moving to this stage, with the final outcome being quite lovely and a wee bit easier for me to produce! I'm really enjoying experimenting with different glazes and designs, this little bird design is pretty new and I love the softness of the lines and shades!
To enter my give-a-way, all you have to do is tell me your favourite go-to flower when you stop by the florist and want to buy a couple of stems to cheer up your home! Simple:) I'll have a couple of design choices for the winners and will announce it on Friday, September 25th! Thanks for entering and best of luck!

y favorite flowers are simple flowers like corfloweror sunflower, but in the winter I prefer yellow flowers and it doesn't matter are they roses or tulips or something else :)
My favorite flower is tattooed to me! I love alpine forget-me-nots. They live in the most beautiful places! Freschia (sp?) is my favorite go to flower in the shops with lots of beautiful greens, preferably the leafy kind!
It usually depends on the season-but I'm always drawn to Gerber daisys.
Congrats on the book feature!
um, definitely poppies! Of course! If they are not available, ranunculus or dahlias. This is a wonderful giveaway, congrats on one year of blogging!
definitely tulips:)
I am so lucky that my go to flower is a rose I get from my own garden! In S. California there are only like 2 months when i can't go and get one...and some months it's an embarrassment of riches.
Now, if I were buying flowers...it would be sweet peas! I love everything about them, and have never been able to grow them well (here I don't even try!)
What a great giveaway question! Congrats on 1 year of blogging - I know what a big milestone that is!
I'd have to say daffodils...I guess that's a limited window...but I always love seeing their bright green stems in the spring time. Such a contrast to the gray skies of March.
I love Zinnia, but they are only around in the summer. Poppies and sunflowers are also favorites! Can I add one more? I love tulips =)
I agree with the other girls about the poppies. But I also love lillies- they smell so good!!!
I love poppies but you can't really buy them at the florist. I suppose it depends on the season; right now I'm excited about sunflowers again :) fall is here!
If it's a single fresh pick from the florist (which from up here that's about 9 months out of the year!), then a big headed, bright n' bold single sunflower. If it's a bunch then it is the Stargazer Lily and from the garden, Sweet Peas :o) thanks for asking.
i love carnations and the intoxicating spicy scent!
This is tough as a former florist employee. I find tulips to be graceful as they continue to grow after you cut them and arrange them to perfection. After a day or two they are dancing and bending all over the vase. And considering I have a poppy tattoo on my ribs, I am going to say that is also a favorite.
Congratulations on the book! So exciting.
Without a doubt it's Dahlias! I mostly love to give them to friends bound in a group of about 6 long stems. But I keep them for myself on many occasions.
Gerber Daisies are a great one! I can usually get two or three stems where i live for $3. Cheaper pick me up than a latte!!
My favorite flower from the flower shop is the peony! They are so lovely!
I can't wait to see your work in the new book. I love orchids, dark red Amaryllises, ranunculus and dahlias. Are you looking at some new designs?
Congrats on the book and the birthday....sounds like a good year. I'm always afraid to commit to a favorite anything, but....in the winter and early spring it is hyacinths for bringing me their intense scent at such a gray time, and for now it is the dahlias that I've been treating myself to at the growers' market each week. I'm in such awe of their color and complexity. Fun question!
such a tough question, depends on the time of year, but i love poppies, peonies or white tulips!
My husband usually brings me home flowers so I don't have a favorite that I usually buy. But I love it when he brings home really intricate unique flowers I have never seen before.
I love Gerber daisies... a lot, but I like my flowers to last a while in vases, so I've been loving green button mums recently. Cute, cheap and love the colour!
i love your vases! they're gorgeous. i saw your work in person for the first time at 'handmade nation' and it is just stunning!
fave flowers depend on the season, but my all-time best are peonies in pale pink. the scent is to die for. others include tulips, poppies, gerberas, oh and so many more :)
My favorite flowers to cheer up my home by far are Dahlias! My dream is to one day get married on a Dahlia farm with all my loved ones. Congratulations on a year of blogging! Your vases are *beautiful*!
I love peonies. They always make me smile.
Tulips! I love them and they fit so nicely in a group or scattered in different vases by twos or threes. They are not always in season, but I get so excited when spring comes around and I can buy them as much as I want. My next standby is the stargazer lily, i love the smell.
Those are BEAUTIFUL ceramic pieces! I'm in a pottery class right now and I could never make something so stunning. I'd love to win! My go-to flower would have to be dafodils... I just love how cheery they make me feel. :)
My go to flower would probably be the gerbera daisies or lilies. The smell from a blooming lily is just so amazing...
Congrats on your photos being published in the book and way to go on the blog. Keep it up!!
Sunflowers! I had them at my outdoor wedding, and I'd be amazed if one or two of them couldn't brighten anybody's day. Your vases are delightful!
I love Dahlias. They can be shaggy and they can be symmetric. I just love their varied looks. I love your work!
i love observing how ranunculus bloom.....
<3
congrats! My favorite is definitely daisies. I think they're my favorite just cuz they're so simple.
I've loved snapdragons since I was a little girl!
Stargazer lilies are the way to go for a bright pop of color and the MOST heavenly scent. They are true jewels on stems. It works for any budget too - a bucketful is positively extravagant, while a single stem is just as elegant.
I just read about you through PoppyTalk. You do such beautiful work! Your ginko leaf bowls and poppy plates are stunning.
lily's are always nice! and Tiger Lily's are particularly lovely.
i don't have just one favorite but my go-to blooms are anything full and fluffy like dahlias, mums or hydrangeas
the vases are amazing!
My favorite flowers are daisies and sunflowers because they are so cheerful. Congratulations on being published! You are so talented. I saw your link on Poppytalk and I'm so excited to be looking through your blog:)
My favorite flowers are gardenia's. They are all over South Florida (where I live) and their smell would brighten up anyone's day!!
My favorite flowers to pick up are peonies. I love them! They are hard to find in Hawaii though =(
Congrats on your many successes!
Sarah
I love, love, love... coxcombs and Billy balls! The are just so pretty!
i do love hydrangeas, but as it is becoming fall, i am super excited to pick up an enormous kale flower at the weekend farmers' market.
Congratulations on your birthday!
My favorite flowers are peonies. I love their large, fluffy blossoms. But they're hard to find in a pinch. If I need a super-fast arrangement I buy roses (Costco sells them at a great price). Two bunches in a square or round vase - criss-cross them until you have as many as you can fit in. You'll have a beautiful yet simple bouquet in minutes.
Tulips are one of my faves! Thank you :)
My FAVORITE flowers are lillies...i know they might be known as the "funeral" flower...but i don't care. Ever since I started dating my now husband, whenever he buys me flowers (maybe 1-2 times a year..makes it more special) that is what he buys me. It's our flower, and it makes our tiny apartment smell lively!
lilacs because i love the scent so much!
sarahspyblog @ gmail . com :)
Sunflowers, it is hard not to smile when they are around.
I love spider mums! Happy 1st blogiversary!
My favorite are hydrangea since they were the main flower in my wedding, but I also love daisies because they look great for a long time and are usually pretty inexpensive!
i looooooove lilacs! but i suppose that you can't really get them from a florist so i would have to say that peonies would be my favourite (:
congrats on one year and the book!!! ((:
i recently discovered blue thistle. i love the soft blue contrast with the harsh texture of the bud. plus they are hardy and lasted a while!
love your designs!
Your pottery is gorgeous - I'm favoriting some things on etsy for when my wallet is a little fuller. :)
My go-to flowers are lilies, all colors.
I love dahlias and peonies, but I prefer them right out of the garden rather than from a flower shop!
Congrats on the book feature!
michelou[at]gmail[dot]com
my favorite are tulips --- bring them home, put them in water, and overnight they're standing up straight, tall, and happy. never fail to bring a smile to my face when i wake up...which is quite the feat in the morning!
Gerber daisies are always such bright and sunny options for cheer.
That is really exciting! I am happy that you are getting published.
I really like your work. I found you via poppytalk, and I am glad you were featured.
So, since I am so in love, I would like to enter that contest of yours.
My favorite flower is cabbage roses.
Thanks for the giveaway! I appreciate the thought.
Congratulations on your book feature. I'm totally new to your blog and it's absolutely beautiful and inspiring.
My go-to flowers are gerberas and hydrangeas. Hydrangeas are a new favorite for me.
Lilacs, definitely lilacs! Such a lovely scent and a beautiful, sparkling colour!
Although I can only get them in the fall, Football Mums brighten up my day like no other flower. They are so soft and simple, I love them. Because of their size only one or two works and they last forever. It takes every part of me to not scream like a little school girl when fall comes around and I pick up my first bunch.

Todas son mis flores favoritas, pero si tengo que elegir alguna, los lirios y el jazmin por su aroma.
Besos desde España
I like most yellow or white flowers like sunflowers or daisys, I love camomille too... and o course I love poppies! ;O)
My go-to flower is definitely the ranunculus. They are structurally so beautiful, and the variety of colors they come in makes it an incredibly versatile flower.
dahlias for color and bells of ireland for their amazing smell! i am now wishing i bought them more often!
I just followed you here from Poppytalk and I can't believe how gorgeous your vases are - I love the little birdy! My favourite flowers are tulips and gerberas and they always cheer me up.
(I'm in the UK btw so feel free to discount me from the giveaway, but I did want to tell you how much I like your work!)
i like daisys, common white with yellow center, and crowns of them!
Dahlias or peonies depending on the season! Anything Pink or Orange!
hmm, my favourite flower from a florist would have to be lily of the valley in spring. It doesn't last long at all, but seems to brighten my day.
I love poppies growing outside, but not sure how long they last in a vase. Gerber daisies are a favorite from the florist - that lipstick color.
And, there are always wildflowers. A bunch of them in a vase are so cheerful.
Lilies are my absolute favorite.
It is nice to have a pottery blog to read that is so close to home.... I can follow all the wonderful shows and openings.
I love yellow roses.
Nicole in White Rock
My favourite is the peony so I treasure the short season when they are in bloom.
Tulips. I even love how they look when they start to die and wander from the vase.
I have favorite flowers by season. Tulips in the winter because they seem to be available here in Vancouver. Cherry blossoms in spring. Poppies in early summer. Peonies in mid-summer. Dahlias in later summer and early fall. It's too hard to choose a favorite flower. :)
oh, it's such a hard choice...but i'll nearly always go for poppies or tulips when i have the chance to choose. but i'll never turn down flowers of any variety...i'm even excited to see baby's breath show up at my house!
For sure my favorite flowers are lillies, but I also like to buy gerberas for my home.
=)
I love gerber daisies - they can always cheer my up and I love sticking one in my hair every once in awhile to dress up a messy bun :)
Tulips...lots of them! I'm also a fan of lilacs...as much for the smell as for the beauty.
oh my goodness! your work is so lovely!!
dahlias are my favourite flowers, they look just as sweet fully bloomed as they do closed in a small bud!
i never had a go-to flower, that is until i planned my wedding. now, i absolutely adore green spider mums.
Freesia's for their wildness and divine scent. Boronia, one of those treats I leap upon when it fleetingly appears in our flower shops. It's spring in Sydney so we are in the midst of a riot of gorgeous flora of all descriptions ... I just brought home the dearest bunch of Sweet William - white, burgundy, scarlet and fuschia pink. Quite adorable.
i loooove yellow tulips. they automatically make me smile - they are so sunny and happy :)))
I love irises but they're often hard to find, so usually when I'm buying flowers for myself it's something simple like daisies or zinnias. I love your work!
Hi Heather,
I just HAD to add my two cents!
I love white tulips OR peonies if they are in season.
Keep up the good & lovely work.
Sasha
I used to be a florist and I fell in love with hydrangeas. One stem is all you need.
i love peonies, or dahlias... !! pretty, puffy or round-ish in shape.. i also love the look of carnations in monochromatic colours!!
your work is so cute, found you through poppytalk! :)
I love dahlias, my great-grandfather grew them in his backyard. They were his pride and I think of him every time I see them.
I love peonies! So excited for this giveaway!
simply beautiful! i love the bottle shape. go-to flower . . . gosh that is tough. i'm so swayed by the season, availability, price, etc. think i'll have to go with white lilies - they last a long time and fill out a vase without much effort. congrats to you and thanks for the give-away!
My go-to flower is gerber daisies, but I also like to buy daffodils.
I always go for the zinnias because they come in so many different colors. Thanks for the giveaway!
love your work, love your blog! congrats on one year of blogging!!
my current favorite flower is ranunculus - we had them on the tables for our wedding and then kept them alive through our honeymoon - i think they're absolutely beautiful (and it helps that they seem to last for a long time!)
When in season, my favorite are gladiolus. They have such beautiful colors! And my mom always told me they are my "birthday flower." I also love mums, which we had at our wedding, but I just have those growing back every year outside out house. :)
Beautiful vases! My favourite flower to brighten up my day is a tulip. :)
I LOVE peonies, especially pale pink ones. They're so beautiful and look good in every room of the house.
Sunflowers. :)
Not only do they make me instantly smile, but they also remind me of Van Gogh, whom I adore.
~giant light purple spider mums~
sunflowers!
^__^
Your work is lovely (-:
Congratulations on all the wonderfulness in your life!
Gerber daisys.
love!
they'd look great in one of your vases!
i love anything in white, but hyndrangea's seem to always make me feel better.
rununculus'!!!
thanks for this opportunity!
j.
What a lovely contest. Depending on the season I love, dahlias, gladiolas or ranunculus. Nothing beats those first daffodils in spring though!
For me it is Crocosmia. They remind me of my grandfather from South Africa, of my mother in Victoria BC who grew them in her front garden and of my wedding day on July 15th when I went to the florist the day of the wedding and bought a huge bouquet of them. Lots of memories!
roses...sigh...i'm so predictable
Hands down - big and bright dalhias or zinnias from the farmer's market (or my own garden if I was smart enough to put in bulbs early in the spring.
Mini carnations. I fell in love with them when I started to paint them. They are so gloriously uncool!
Depends on the season, fall I have to have dalhias, spring - cherry blossoms or daffodils. Summer, has to be sunflowers.
I love your poppy vases!
Oh - it's a tossup between tulips and peonies
Gerbera daisies for me. I love the cheerful yet autumny colors. They remind me of October which is my favorite month. We had a fall wedding, my husband and I, and red, orange and yellow gerbera daisies everywhere! Maybe THAT's why I like them so much!
My grandmother adored irises, and I love to have them around the house because they remind me of her.
A toss up between old men on the mountain and indian paintbrushes
How can you go past the suspense of the unknown colours held in little furry poppy heads? One or two stems with their crinkled petals bring such joy.
Congrats on one year of blogging.
