Room6: Holiday Open House this Friday!

Well I'm pretty much in over my head getting the last of the last, of the very last work out for this year! I did want to give a little heads up about one of my very favourite and first ever shops, Room6.  It's the cutest little shop in Deep Cove that is completely full of the most lovely gifts for all the special people in your life, including you!  I usually drop work off, spend about an hour talking to the very lovely Megan, and then proceed to walk out with a few new things (it's like a trade, ok?).   Room6 was one of the first shops that really took an interest in my work and believed that it was special, and I truly do give Megan a lot of credit for giving me the chance to sell my work in her beautiful shop on and off over the years. 
This friday evening she is hosting her 8th Annual Open House (has it really been 8 years already??), and you will find the most lovely gifts for everyone in your life, including some very, brand-new work by yours truly, created especially for Room6!

We will cheer on our team

So today is the day.  Everyone around here is nervously biting their nail and hoping for the best!  We shall see- I'm not much of a hockey fan, however I'll cheer on the home team with as much gusto as I can manage! For everyone's sake I really hope we get the cup tonight and I'm looking forward to this looong series being over... seriously!!

I'm back in the studio today loading a glaze into the kiln, with work being dropped off again at Room6 and the Vancouver Anthropologie by the end of the week!  Thank you to those of you who have come by and put your name in the draw for one of 3 bottle vases... for some reason, a few people are also attempting to put their name in the draw for June 2010's cake stand give-a-way...sorry folks, that one has was given away last year.  Today will be the last day to put your name in for the draw on my bottle vases- I'll pull 3 winners out of a hat tomorrow!

Some recent i-phone uploads for you.  The orange Vespa is in constant need of repair, but it looks oh so cool.  The kitty is well loved and is enjoying the outdoors now that the weather is better.  And coffee with a friend does wonders!
Anyways, I hope you have a wonderful long weekend!  If you are passing through the Airport, I just dropped off a bunch of work! And the up-date on the Anthropologie Store (great post on decor8 with photos on the new shop) was that my vases are selling quickly! Thank you Vancouver for such a warm response!  I also just dropped off more striped bottle vases down at Room6 in Deep Cove.  Megan is just about to launch her new website- can't wait to check it out!

If you've had your eye on my striped vases- please swing over to the Room6 shop to purchase!  I have up-dated my Etsy shop to include the 4 vases (only 3 colours available) that I have left, but I won't have the whole collection in stock until the beginning of April now.  And my shop will be 'on holidays' from March 20-26, and then again from March 30-April 4th.

Room6: special delivery for nice people

One of the first shows I did when I was thinking about launching my new ceramic work, before it was officially 'dahlhaus', was at Room6.  It all started out back in 2006 with 'the red dot collection', a series of work inspired by a circular shape in my paintings that stood in for a connecting point between people.  For me, the series was all about connecting around the table as you passed around a bowl or a platter, and while the work was in it's really beginning stage of development, and I had only just gotten into my own studio, Megan at Room6 was generous enough to host the exhibition at her shop.

Room6 has been showcasing independent design from all over the world since 2005.  It's an ever-rotating mix of lovely products that make really great gifts for that special person in your life (oh, and you are special too!).  As you can see, I'm dropping off a whole crate of colour-wheel bottle vases that you can purchase through the Room6 website  or in person at the shop in Deep Cove!  I can't wait to see the display idea Megan has for them- I'm sure it will be amazing!

Collections: Lucky Clover Pencil Box

First off- special thanks to all the lovely mentions and comments regarding my colour wheel bottle vase photo!  One little bird, down home amy, and the Room6 blog.  Oh and then this little post from On a secret mission about 2 canadian bloggers, one being myself and one being the very talented Arounna from bookou.  It's made my week start out with a smile!

So here is another little glimpse into some of my hand-me-down art supplies.  This wooden pencil case- a lucky pencil case with all the 4 leaf clovers around it, was passed on to me by my great-aunt.  It's kind of the perfect case for Ink nibs and pens, don't you think? 

And the sweet little houses and the snow and trees, mixed in with all the different patterns, how lovely is that?  There is something about opening a box like this and pulling out the nibs that makes me want to write a letter.  You know, a real letter on nice stationary.  Using ink, because my writing looks so much better when I use a proper nib and ink. Have you ever noticed that?  Remarkable. 
I have a pen pal- I really should say 'had' because I'm notoriously bad for writing her back now, but I have had a pen pal from Germany since I was in grade 3.  We kept in touch all these years, she visited me when we were in grade 12 and I visited her in Stuttgart about 8 years ago.  I still have all her letters to me- most of which are in german, all of which were written with a real ink pen.  I'm quite certain it's my turn to write and so I think this might be a good place to start.  But where to start when it's been so long...
