I have up-dated my shops both (my webshop and Etsy) to include some new work- mostly some mugs that were some of the ground work for the 'Kindred' show.

The days that follow

I quite literally have not been on Etsy's front page since July 11th of last year.  I was in a treasury that made it to the front page in December, but my item, being on the back end of the treasury didn't actually make it to the front page.  It's always remarkable how my stats go through the roof on a day when one of my items does make it to the front page, and yesterday, I had two items in 2 treasuries on the front page- one at 8am and one at 8pm.  Kind of funny.  All I can say is that I never look forward to the days that follow a front page appearance.  When I check my stats and the percentage of hits falls like 400% or something.  It's hard to come down after such a huge climb up...

I'm finding the new system for treasuries a little crazy- anyone else out there think it's a little nuts?  I mean, the open door policy on creating treasuries is, on the one hand good.  I think I've gotten more traffic through treasuries this way because everyone feels obliged to go and click onto a treasury with their objects on it and then they see other people's stuff and click on that, and then perhaps they it in a treasury and it has sort of a ripple effect.  But it feels a like it's a bit much, like over time, people are going to start ignoring treasuries because there are too many of them and they are over-used.  Maybe that's just my feeling- perhaps people will keep loving making treasuries despite the lack of constraints, but it did used to feel as though being able to make a treasury used to be a big deal.  Anyways, food for thought. Back in stock!

Hello!  I have mostly up-loaded and re-stocked my web shop and Etsy shop with some lovely pottery that came out of the kiln on friday!   It's always a relief when the first firing of the season turns out well and all the orders I was completing can happily go on their way to new homes.  I made some extras which are slowly making their way into my shops.  In the meantime, the boys are home from school today and we are enjoying the sunshine! and a lovely visit from our little Oliver and my sister!  Hope you have a great monday!

Shop Up-date & Poppytalk Handmade Market

I've recently up-dated my Etsy shop to include a few of my newest pieces.  I'm still waiting on my new photos to fully up-date and launch the new work, but am excited to be part of Poppytalk's Handmade Market that happens starting Monday.  It's a 'Holiday' themed market- the season is getting closer as we head into November, but it still feels like fall around here. 
I'm heading off to celebrate my sister's birthday on Vancouver Island today- Happy Birthday Heidi!  I get to cuddle with my little nephew Oliver and spend time with her before the rush of the season starts for me!  Thanks for all your comments over the past few weeks, it's been great to hear your thoughts!  Have a great weekend.

Market & Shop up-dates!

Here are some photos from the Eugene Choo Market that I did on the weekend.  It was a dreary Saturday with rain on and off, but it was good to pull all my new work out of the studio.  Here are some pics of one of my new designs- I started working with a stem design with floral shapes coming off of a stem in various shades of turquoises, greens and yellows.  It's similar to my current work yet different.. which is always good.

I finally have my cross stitch necklaces up for sale on my Etsy shop, along with an up-date of my regular work, which is now in stock again!  My new work will be photographed for a website up-date in early October, so I'll keep the rest under wraps until the big reveal:)

fresh, fresh, very fresh

 

I have a couple of special projects on the go that I've been keeping pretty low-pro on these days.  However, I'm not always great at keeping secrets when I'm happy with the results so this will have to be enough for now.  The 'icing on the cake' will be the gold luster that it's currently waiting for...

 

And in other news- fresh out of the kiln is my new ModernPop Teapot in Blue and White.  I had made on in Black and White if you remember, and have made 'similar' mugs and espresso cups with brown and reds and blues- so here's me playing with colour and really loving the results. 

Another firing to go this week with more fresh work to come:)

New work

Freshly squeezed

To beat the winter cold bugs I've been drinking freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice in the mornings.  The colour of the countertop, our juicer and the pink grapefruits has been good for my mental health as well.  Along with the occasional visit from our neighbour cat, popcorn, who keeps popping up in the window by the sink to say 'hello'.

I'm unloading the kiln with some new work later today.  I hope to have a shop up-date by tomorrow with lots of 'freshly squeezed' pottery- finally! 

Etsy front page & back in stock!

 My Ginko Stem Mugs recently found their way to the front page of Etsy.  My first firing of the season turned out beautifully and I have my Ginko mugs, Turquoise Poppy Mugs, and Poppy Bottle Vases back in stock and ready to ship! I've got another week of glazing and firing for the rest of the work, along with a whole lot of shipping to get the work to my galleries! 

starting to look like Christmas

With the boys getting excited about Christmas I pulled out their little Christmas Tree and all the little ornaments that they've made over the years to get us all in the spirit.  It's a real menagerie of stuff, but it makes the house feel cozy when it gets dark and cold by 4:30pm.  Along with a few of our Christmas Records from the Vinyl collection, we are starting to listen to Christmas music too.  Also been checking out Bliss in a Teacups Christmas playlist she has on her blog these days! Worth checking in on daily:)
My Etsy Shop might look a little bare, but I do have a fair bit at the studio and am taking last calls for Christmas orders by December 10th. This really only works best for local people as shipping just gets more dicey and expensive after the 15th of December.  I've still got Shiny Fuzzy Muddy coming up on the 12th and 13th with some new work coming out by next week!  Busy Elf!

New Ornaments and Give-a-way!

Every year I try to make a new tree ornament- last year it was a pear and a cardinal, this year my ornaments have been inspired by winter conifers and shrubs, namely Pine trees and Holly shrubs. I first made a stamp that I carved my original design into, then pressed it onto translucent porcelain and cut each one out. They have been glazed with a pale blue glaze that pools into the carved areas of the design. I really wanted to add something special to these ornaments and so this year, these went back into the kiln with gold lustre painted on the 'frame' of the design. They look simple and elegant with the golden brown ribbon I found to hang them onto your tree! They can be bought at my shop on Etsy!

Round 1

I just posted 2 of the Porcelain Vases with the Folk-Art inspired monoprints on my Etsy shop. I made 6 forms in all and decided not to put all my eggs in one basket by glazing them all at the same time. I really like the subtle pale transparent blue highlighting the drawn design, but was surprised that my turquoise stain turned more on the dark navy/grey. I wonder what would happen with other stain colours- must do a test tile next...

Weekend Shop Up-dates...

I'm spending the weekend trying to up-date my Etsy shop with some new work that came out of the kiln on Friday, just in time for the Poppytalk Handmade Market that will open on Monday! This sweet pair of press-molded tile frames felt like they belonged together. You can purchase them here!

I'm re-posting this one, due to a little trigger-happy post I did early last week... the official launch of the website and the postcards was this weekend, and now that I have all my facts sorted out, I can do this for realz this time:) Here it is:

The Shiny Fuzzy Muddy show started 10 years ago with current members being Laura McKibbon, Astrosatchel, Kari Woo and Arleigh Wood. Each year they invite a crew of other artists, designers and makers whose work fits in with the adverbs shiny, fuzzy, or muddy to join their holiday show! This year it's at the Heritage Hall on Main street in Vancouver on December 12 & 13.
